One such story dates back to when the area was a wilderness, home to many fierce tigers. The first people to explore the mountain were a man named Hieu, who was a teacher to the three brothers of Nguyen Hue (Emperor Quang Trung), and his granddaughter, Mai. One day, Mai ventured into the forest to pick mushrooms but suddenly encountered a tiger. Luckily, a strong man named Le Tuan, a general under Nguyen Hue, arrived just in time to rescue her.

In gratitude, Mai introduced him to her grandfather. Impressed by Le Tuan’s bravery, Hieu agreed to let him marry Mai. Pointing to the mountain where Le Tuan had saved Mai, he said that it had witnessed their bond and named this mountain Tuong Ky. This is one of the legends about the mountain’s name.
