With a rich and colorful history of more than 3000 years and a uniquely diverse culture when there are 135 ethnic groups living in the territory, Myanmar will be a fascinating country for visitors who are passionate about cultural exploration.
Myanmar – The Land of Golden Pagodas
Myanmar is known as the land of Buddhism, with more than 90% of the population following the religion of Buddhism. In any province, city, or town, there is at least one Buddhist temple or monastery, which leads to another moniker of this nation, “Land of Golden Pagodas”. This religion deeply affects Myanmar in many fields, especially the cultural and spiritual life of the indigenous people.
Like other Buddhist countries, the Thingyan water festival held in April is the biggest national celebration of Myanmar. In addition, there are two other major holidays: the Thadingyut Lighting Festival (in October) and the Taunggyi Fire Balloon Festival (in November).
A noteworthy feature of Myanmar is their traditional costume, the longyi skirt. It is used as common wear by both men and women due to the suitability for Myanmar’s hot climate, as it allows air circulation for keeping cool.
