Highlights of Yangon – 5 Days 4 Nights

When you arrive, our tour guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Once settled, you will travel by car through the picturesque city of Yangon to a variety of sights such as the Chaukhtatgyi (Reclining Buddha) Pagoda. This is a colossal statue of the Reclining Buddha representing of the most revered images in the country. The city center of Yangon features other sites like the Sule Pagoda, serving as both a revered temple and the city center and colonial building. A drive through downtown makes a visit to China Town with a fruit market and Yangon’s city center covering the world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda. The golden dome of this pagoda is famous for its brilliant shine at sunrise and sunset, reflecting the golden sun in a mesmerizing display. Such is followed with a visit to the Karaweik Hall Royal barge on the Royal Lake for a photo opportunity. This floating palace has few peers, and is a majestic sight on the eastern shore of the Kandawgyi Lake. Your day will end with a buffet style dinner with a cultural show at that barge, immersing you in the local delights. The tour spends this first night in the city of Yangon.

After an early breakfast, the group leaves your hotel to drive to Kyaikthiyo, a famous landmark in the area. This “golden rock” is known for being in a dangerously balanced position. The stone has sat as if ready to fall for so long, that people have covered the stone on a cliff in gold leaf, creating a beautiful monument. We will arrive at the base camp of Kinpun and then travel via open truck to the Golden Rock. The trip will take about an hour followed by a light hike through a bamboo forest. This scenic route will allow you to take in the beauty of the area both from a vehicle and up close. The tour will enjoy the beautiful sunset glinting off the Golden Rock.

Following breakfast, the group will take a half-hour walk to a small cave nearby. Along this trip, the group will stop at several roadside shops for a chance to see rare items from deep in the jungle. By mid-morning, the group will drive down to the base camp and return to Yangon via a smaller town called Bago. While in Bago, a tour of that area will include the local market, the stunning Kanbawza Thardi Palace built in the heart of the town is a magnificent golden palace with majestic spires on each roof. Other sites include the Kalayani Sima (ordination hall), the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, Shwethalyaung Pagoda and a beautiful reclining Buddha. This rich cultural set of opportunities allow you the chance to take pictures and experience local culture by immersing yourself in it. The town also boasts a wood carving industry that produces some of the most intricate and beautiful pieces to behold. After Bago, the group will return to Yangon.

After the chance to eat breakfast, the group moves on for a half-day trip to Thanlyin across the Yangon River via Thanlyin Bridge. A powerful structure that is a marvel of engineering that spans over a kilometer of river. The island on the other side is home to several breathtaking pagodas, and is one of the most well-known and famous pagoda destinations in the area. The Kyaikmawwin (Yele) Pagoda is a beautiful draw for any photo opportunity. The locals in the Kyauktan Market and town are ready to help you experience the stunning pagodas and help you find the right angle for unforgettable images. After which you will return to Yangon and visit the Bogyoke Aung San Market for one last opportunity to get a souvenir of your visit.

After a chance to rise and eat breakfast, our helpful staff will transfer you to the airport for your departure from Yangon.
