The cathedral’s construction began on September 3rd, 1928, and was completed in December 1935 by the French priest Louis Vallet (1869 – 1945). Situated atop a small hill adjacent to a 6-way intersection in the heart of Nha Trang city, Cathedral Mountain is a popular destination for tourists.

The official name of the cathedral is Christ the King Cathedral. However, the locals affectionately refer to it by simpler and more familiar names like the Church Stone or the Church of Intersection of 6 blocks, Cathedral Mountain.

Cathedral Mountain – An Awe-Inspiring Architectural Wonder

For over 80 years, Cathedral Mountain has been a steadfast presence in Nha Trang. From a distance, its appearance is reminiscent of an ancient Roman castle. Located on the top of the hill, the cathedral, with its ash-gray exterior, remains steadfast against time.

The overall structure of Cathedral Mountain in Nha Trang is sturdy, built with several small stone blocks. The bell tower, located 38 meters above ground level, is the highest point of the church, with a Holy Cross on the top.

The Mysterious Bell Tower

Approaching the stone church, tourists will see the impressive architecture that is divided into three distinct parts:

• The upper part is the corridor area and two bell towers;

The bell tower houses two bronze bells manufactured by the renowned French bell factory, Bourdon Carillond. As you step through the gate, you will see an expansive and luminous space with two rows of pew chairs and a pathway leading directly to the statue of Jesus.

The walls are adorned with 14 paintings that depict the sufferings of Jesus. The stained glass windows, when combined with the interior space, create a brilliant glow that inundates the cathedral with light. All of these elements create an enigmatic ambiance, especially at dusk and dawn.
